A trip on board the Drunken Shrimp

imgp4800.JPG My husband and I love seafood so its not surprising how much we love eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant. So we automatically headed there when we went out last night for dinner.

I asked him to try the Ping Pong Shrimp* that I loved so much so that he will see that I had at least tried something spicy. See the bright red pepper in the picture? Yeeesh!

Although it was still spicy for me (but good), my husband loved it.

This time we tried the Lt. Dan’s Drunken Shrimp and the Ultimate Combo as I was craving for some meat too. The menu said the combo included flat steak so I felt confident I would be able to finish it. But when the dish came, I was shocked to see how flat the steak was! It was a VERY THICK flat steak. LOL. There goes my diet.

My husband looked disappointed when our server laid down his order in front of him. It was a small plate with 4 measly shrimps lying on e bed of a mound of mashed potatoes. He looked so forlorn, I offered all the shrimp I had to him.

I will no longer elaborate on how good everything was as I already posted about it here.

About halfway through his meal, my husband suddenly appeared glassy-eyed. He looked at me and said - “alak to no?” (this is wine right?). I said yeah because the menu says it was made with Bourbon sauce. He continued to look glazed. He said he was dizzy, sleepy, and he was starting to have a headache. Uh-oh. [...more of that story here...]

My husband does not drink and with the way he described what he felt - it seemed to me like those times I felt after downing a bottle of colt in one gulp… I couldnt help but tease him even when I was getting worried. We were parked far from Greenbelt and I do not have the physique to carry my husband to the car.

He seriously got tipsy! We paid the bill and left. And all the way to the car, I was holding up my husband as he drunkenly walked. Haha. It made me recall those college nights after a late night drinking party… Maybe it was a combination of fatigue, stress, plus the bourbon that made my husband dizzy.

Lt. Dan’s Drunken Shrimp was very good mind you but we really did not get to fully enjoy it.

See? It seems pretty harmless right? Anyway - its another memorable dinner experience with Bubba Gump despite the effects of the alcohol. Im pretty sure we will be coming back. Although we will steer clear of Lt. Dan next time.

:D

[...] anyway, Apples ordered The Ultimate Combo [Flat Iron Steak and Skewered Shrimps with coleslaw and mashed potatos] for herself, and i ordered Lt Dan’s Drunken Shrimp [Tender Shrimp in Spicy Bourbon Sauce] for me… not knowing that i’d regret that choice later on… […more about the food here…] [...]

my wife and i ate there last wednesday and got the infamous lt. dan’s drunken shrimp. aside from being spicy, i didn’t notice any alcohol content. cooking alcohol really evaporates the alcoholic content.

anyway the food there was great although i can still feel the burning sensation. in my wallet. hehehehe… we would probably go back there if i can coax my wife to pick up the tab. :P

    ciao!

    @Erin
    - Do you drink? My husband gets drunk at the smell of Green cross rubbing alcohol. :D I also think its quite an expensive way to eat so we also go there just once in a while. Other times, we settle for going to the market ourselves and cooking at home. :)

im a social drinker. three bottles of beer is my quota. for the burning sensation bubba gump left in my pocket i would think that seaside market in julia vargas sounds more appetizing. :D

    ciao!

    - I am a social drinker too so that would make me not very social recently as I havent had that much (3 bottles) to drink in a while.

I love eating at that dampa-like place in julia vargas. We used to drive all the way to Pque to visit dampa but am glad they have places like that nearby already.

apples, a social drinker means that you talk too much (or eat a lot of pulutan) for the amount of alcohol you drink. i belong to the pulutan category. :D

    ciao!
