Why Krispy Kreme remains no. 1

I was fortunate enough to have spent time in the states and therefore experienced waking up early morning weekends just to visit the Krispy Kreme donut shop in Scottsdale, AZ. I loved the smell of baking dough as I enter their parking lot. I loved how the cute college guy - who worked there for the summer - handed out warm glazed donuts to all those who entered the store. Even our office served Krispy Kremes for breakfast on fridays, so these tasty delights were always around to satisfy my craving. I couldnt get enough that I even hand-carried 2 boxes on the plane with me when I went home to Manila.

When Gonuts Donuts first opened at the Fort, Taguig, I was one of those who waited in line for hours just to get my hands on a dozen (or more) of those donuts. Before they opened, the buzz was that Gonuts Donuts were made like Krispy Kremes… and I wanted anything that would remind me of how KK tasted. Dont get me wrong, I also love Gonuts Donuts too. I mean if Krispy Kreme had not opened shop in Manila, they would me my ultimate donut favorite.

But the donut has landed and it has landed here!

When it did, a lot of people commented on how KK was nothing extraordinary. That it was like Gonuts Donuts and not the other way around. A lot of people are even complaining about the cost - which is much more expensive than the local donut brands.

So even with all the technology and the evolving taste buds, why does Krispy Kreme remain number 1 (at least to me)?

Its simple really if people will just care enough to observe.

Gonuts Donuts are very good out of the box… buy them now and they will remain good 3 hours later. If for some reason you have leftovers, refrigerate it for next day’s binging. When you feel the urge for the sweet stuff, take them out of the fridge but microwave it first so you get the soft bread, and melt in your mouth taste that you had the day before.

Krispy Kreme are great out of the box… buy them now and they remain great 8 hours later. If for some reason you have leftovers, refrigerate it for next day’s binging. When you feel the urge for the sweet stuff, take them out of the fridge and let it stand at room temperature for 5 seconds. 5 seconds is all it takes to get it back to the soft, melt in your mouth taste that you have been craving for… and then… repeat the process until you finish the dozen donuts you have (put in fridge-get it out). You will see that the in-and-out of the fridge action will not even cause the bread to dry out. I tried it. I did it. I ate it… and I ate them all. LOL.

And that my friends, is why Krispy Kreme remains to be NUMERO UNO.
