Vigan longganisa in a sandwich

Many foodlovers have come across the Vigan longganisa at some point in their food lives. Even your local grocery store would have the frozen variety of this sausage at its freezers. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the fortune of actually trying this out in its hometown.

Since we are in the Philippines, rice would be what most would have to eat with the Vigan longganisa. Best if dipped in the equally famous sukang Iloco which is very hot and very sour. Yummy isn’t it? I am salivating just thinking about it.

Can you imagine then taking your Vigan longganisa in a sandwich? I can’t either. Which is why I wrinkled my nose when I accidentally ordered it at Oliver’s Super Sandwiches. I was actually craving for a hot grilled bacon sandwich. (hehe). But what the heck, I was hungry so I bit into it. I can only say…. Hmmm. The grilled bread over greens, tomatoes, the Vigan longganisa and Oliver’s specialty mustard dressing created a delightful combination of salty, creamy but light sandwich. The Vigan longganisa was the bite similar to what bacon does to the BLT.

As I watched my husband happily munching on his grilled bacon sandwich (previously mine), I couldn’t help but admit, I got the better choice. Tsk tsk.

For a brief 2 seconds, I thought the title referred to “Vegan” longganisa… so that caught my eye, lol. You know, because Filipino vegans seem like a rare species.

Mmm, longganisa sandwich… Why not… it’s just a sausage sandwich and I love those… i.e. hot Italian sausages with roasted red peppers ‘wich.

Fruityoaty - I agree that Filipino vegans are a rare species. I sometimes wish I were too - sometimes only. Try Oliver’s. It’s really good.

utakgago - I buy monterey frozen longganisa also and that I think is the best alternative to the real one (but dont quote me on that as I havent tasted the real thing). Haha… talaga naman gardenia pa. I dont like gardenia anymore e. No lasting quality. ;)

ela - Im glad my site pops up at the search for Oliver’s Sandwich. Its the beauty of SEO. Anyway - I was also surprised when I saw Oliver’s offered it. I wouldn’t have thought of longganisa in a sandwich but they made it work.
