Choco Mallows
I know, I know… It’s been a while since our last post. Both my husband and I have been busy and have not had the chance to go out and try what’s new around the metro.
So let me just share with you my junk food binge for the past couple of days.
I must say that I have discovered something new. Well not exactly new, rather an old favorite packaged a little differently.

Remember those chocolate mallows sold in yellow boxes? Well I love those yummy chocolate candies. I always felt that the number of candies in those boxes were insufficient that I end up buying several boxes at the grocery just to satisfy my craving.
Well not anymore. You see one of my officemates recently showed me where I could buy a bagful of choco mallows all for the price of P50.00. Cheap eh?
Looking at it from the outside will not lead you to think it is any different from the boxed variety. It has the same chocolatey goodness, the soft marshmallow is chewy and yummy and the biscuit still offers the same crunch. So I really don’t care if it doesn’t come foiled and boxed, I am happy with my choco mallows. Wouldn’t you be?

Many of the junk foods are high in sugar, sodium chloride and fat content which can lead to the deficiency of essential minerals like boron that helps in the metabolism of some other minerals; cobalt that plays a part in strengthening the bones and sulfur that is needed for good skin and high tolerance.

I always ask my mom to buy me bags of choco mallows back then. I could finish up a bag in one sitting, so she buys a lot. Hehe… I just don’t know if she still has some contact to whoever sells her these goodies. I miss choco mallows! T_T
hi apples,
those are factory overruns, meaning they are the same as the boxed version but for some reason they didn’t pass quality control. normally the reason is trivial like for mallows the coating wasn’t perfect, and for chocolate chips cookies either they do not contain enough choco chips or they came out as chipped.
packaging (and marketing and shipment) adds a lot on the market price. my wife used to work for URC and they have a co-op store wherein new products gets “tested” there. these are usually in unlabeled foils. i remember my wife bringing home the then new flavor of “Nova” wherein she only paid around 4 or 6 pesos per pack. the final marketed product went in the market for more than thrice that value.
ciao!
You are evil. I’ve been craving for something chocolate. Gaah! Must go to 7-11.
Aja - Aside from the person who sells these at the office, I really do not know where to buy these. I too am able to finish one of these bags in one sitting. Tsk tsk.. no wonder I’m gaining weight.
Erin - It doesnt matter if they are factory overruns. They are the best tasting overruns I have come across.
Since you know where these came from, do you know where I can buy them then outside of the office?
Nina - Haha. Go get some!
In the previous company I worked for there is somebody who is selling these once per week. Here in Makati I usually see a vendor selling them in front of the Prudential tower along Ayala, especially during mornings. These are usually placed (among other things) in large styro ice chest (minus the ice). If I am not mistaken each bag of overrun costs around 55-70 pesos, right?
I dont mean anything bad about these overruns. It just means that the factory producing these do not want the hassle of handling complaints for “semi-expensive” products because they failed some quality test. In the long run it was cheaper to sell these in bulk to employees (or those with connections to employees) who repackages them and sells them cheaper since they dont need to deal with marketing costs. The only deal is that they cannot tag it as the original product but that doesn’t stop them from saying the name of the original one.
ps, i usually buy the chocolate chip ones because I find the mallows too sweet. i think my sweet tooth died when i graduated from college.
ciao!
Erin - Wait, where’s Prudential? Hehe. Its obvious I will be walking that way more often now that you have told me where I can get my supply from. I still love the mallows. Actually my last stash consisted of 2 bags of mallows, 1 bag of crunchies, and 1 bag of pretzels. Hmmm.. Yummy!
Darn! Choco mallows! Y-u-m-m-y! Good thing I also know where to get the treats at a cheaper price than buying dozens of the yellow boxes. :p
Joel - waah! Do you also get it at Prudential? Where? Where? Where?
Prudential building fronts the BPI building along Ayala, and is the building with Jollibee/Starbucks/Pizza Hut Bistro. If coming from Edsa, it is the third bus stop (and the second official unloading stop).
If you happen to be in the stock exchange building, just walk along Ayala towards Buendia/Fire station, then cross using the underpass of Paseo de Roxas then go straight towards the waiting sheds. I usually see them every morning but I am now coming from Makati Ave so I haven’t been in that area for quite a while. I am not sure about the availability too because as far as I know the supply for these are not constant.
ciao!
We do buy these choco mallows, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate pretzels, sultana biscuits and a lot more stuff at the Sunday Market on Lung Center of the Philippines. Though we haven’t been there for months, we are planning to go there soon. It is called Market One I think, formerly called Sidcor (they used to be in Cubao). Try going there if, you are near. Lots of food to buy, plus other things too.
Julie - I am afraid that would be out of the way from where I usually am. But I will keep that in mind the next time I am in the area on a Sunday. Thanks for the tip!
[...] Chocolate Mallows. Another childhood favorite, chocolate mallows is a big marshmallow stuck on top of a biscuit then [...]
kid palang ako, fave ko na yan! until now, i still grab a couple of boxes whenever we’d go to the supermarket!
u8mypinkcookies - you know, I always forget to grab some myself when I go shopping. Hehe. But right now we have the pack of chocolate pretzels (same overruns pack).
i like it with the chocolate crunchies naman!
