Italianni’s Sicilian Chicken Salad
A salad is a mixture of different food/s usually including vegetables or fruits, served with a dressing or sauce. There are times that salads come with chicken or shrimp or bacon (my favorite!), and other times with cheese.
Over time I have acquired a liking to green salads especially the caesar salad. Other than that, I stayed with eating safe ones like fruit or potato salad that are often served on special occasions at our house.
When a friend raved about Italianni’s Sicilian salad, my ears perked up. It was a sign that I was meant to try this so called concoction. I readily accepted an invite to eat at Italianni’s in Greenbelt 2 just for the sake of tasting it.
My friends were telling me what it was made of - lettuce, grapes and mangoes. I almost turned back. I was thinking “salad with mangoes? and grapes??”. I was expecting to be disappointed.
Three of us shared a full portion of the Sicilian Chicken Salad since I did not want to pay Php500 for something I wasn’t sure I would like and probably will not be able to finish.
I confirmed that the salad was indeed mixed with some grapes, and mangoes, plus nuts and chicken breast. It wasn’t too scary so I dug in. The dressing was creamy lemon dijon as the menu indicated but the taste of garlic was prominent. Don’t get me wrong. I was enticed by the tangy flavor and I loved it but I was thinking more of “creamy garlic” instead of “creamy lemon dijon”.
I might have to experiment with creating this kind of dressing as the taste of my caesar’s is slowly wearing out my taste buds. Maybe its time for a change. What do you think?

its the price here that keeps me away sometimes
jeff - I agree. But at least the food has not deteriorated.
I love this salad! I love how the different flavors come alive in your mouth — something I don’t really expect from a salad.
toni - I had the same thing in mind when I was told there were grapes and mangoes in it. The fruits was a complement to the tanginess of the dressing.
This is one of my favorite things to order at Italianni’s. Winner sya talaga, ang ganda ng combination ng ingredients. Try mo rin yung Penne Arrabiatto and yung bago nila na Chicken breast with truffle something (I can’t remember the name, ano ba yan!).
Btw, Happy new year Apples!
nina - Happy New Year too! Hmm… chicken breast with truffle - sounds soo healthy. Hehe. I’ll take note of it the next time I visit.
i haven’t tried their salad yet, but i think it’s a little too expensive for me.. >_<
looks good though
jamezu - Many feel the way you do that they are indeed pricey. But once in a while, we make it a point to try it out as the food is really good.
Yes I have to agree with jeff. I always wanted to try their salad but the price is definitely an issue.
emmanuel - Most of their servings are to share so if you want you could bring a friend along.
I have to agree! This one is one of my favorites too! Yummyness
This salad is really a sure winner! Try this, worth naman yung price. For our Noche Buena, I will create my own version of it…too bad I didn’t read the dressing from the menu so I didn’t know which salad dressing to buy from the grocery. I just picked a bottle of mango vinaigrette…hope I can somehow copy the taste. As for the pine nuts (couldn’t find them also, plus they’re expensive daw), I will use roasted cashew nuts instead. Goodluck to me!
purplenep - The dressing of the sicilian salad is dijon dressing. This gives it that slight tangy taste that is similar to garlic. I am not sure how mango vinaigrette will turn out so let me know!
